Celebrating The Life

Of

King George Byrum

Beloved Husband To Hazel T. Byrum

January 13th, 1932 -September 6th, 2011

Psalm 23

The LORD is my shepherd,
I shall not be in want.
He makes me lie down in green pastures,
he leads me beside quiet waters,
He restores my soul.
He guides me in paths of righteousness
for his name's sake.
Even though I walk
through the valley of the shadow of death,
I will fear no evil,
for you are with me;
your rod and your staff,
they comfort me.
You prepare a table before me
in the presence of my enemies.
You anoint my head with oil;
my cup overflows.
Surely goodness and love will follow me
all the days of my life,
and I will dwell in the house of the LORD
forever.

King George Byrum's Journey of Life

A Time To Be Born:

A time to be born and a time to die, a time to plant and a time to uproot..................................................................................................................."Ecclisiastes 3:2"

On January 13, 1932, God blessed this world with King George Byrum, born to the late James Rufus and Ira Elizabeth Byrum.

He was their ninth child, raised and lived in the Tyner community for 79 years.

A Time To Love:

This is my commandment, that you love one another, as I have loved you............................................................................................."St. John 15:12"

King George's love for the Lord, his family and friends had no boundaries. He fell in love with Hazel Trueblood Byrum

at the age of 18 years old and after a 4 year courtship was married on April 18, 1954. After 57 years of marriage,

their love remained unconditional. To this union was born two daughters, Ira and Hazelene.

King George was a family oriented person. He enjoyed nothing better than to be surrounded by family and friends,

especially at his kitchen table. Until his latter years, he enjoyed traveling with family members and vacationing with

other family and friends.

His love overflowed with pride as he watched his grandbabies grow. Making special holiday boxes to mail, swinging

on the porch, blowing bubbles together, and watching them play on the deck brought special memories in his latter years.

After each visit, baggies were filled with goldfishes or treats to take home. He often said......"These babies keep me going!"

A Time To Serve God:

Many, O Lord my God, are thy wonderful works which thy hast done............................................................................................................"Psalms 40:5"

King George was influenced with strong Christian values at an early age by his parents. He was a faithful member of

Happy Home Pentecostal Holiness Church and chairman of the Happy Home Cemetery. He was the chairman of the

cemetery fund and worked closely with funeral directors making necessary final arrangements for loved ones.

Along with his brothers, Jesse and Hubert, he was instrumental in the construction of the Happy Home Pentecostal Holiness

Church New Sanctuary. Each brother worked side-by-side along with many volunteers over the course of a year and a half.

Today as you look around, you see their beautiful woodwork and master craftsmanship. It was his honor to design and build

the Bible stand and communion table that presides here today.

This picture was taken August 25th, 2011 in the kitchen for Campmeeting by Deanna Byrum.

King George loved campmeetings under the tabernacle. For many years he was the buyer for the kitchen food supplies that

provided wonderful homecooked meals. As many of you know, he loved cooking and feeding the large crowds that came from miles

around. If you ever worked with him in the kitchen, you knew those onions had to be seasoned just right and to "fold that hot dog tight".

A Time To Be Educated a Time To Work:

Make me ark of gopher wood....and this is the fashion which thy shalt make it of....................................................................................."Genesis 6:14-16"

Even without a formal education, King George was quick-minded. He could calculate in his head, design his own blueprints and

could look at something and tell if it was square. He could take a piece of wood and create anything he wanted out of it. God gave

King George and his brothers the ability to work together and apply their God given talents that blessed many and glorified God.

A Time To Die:

Then I heard a voice from heaven say, "Write this: Blessed are the dead who die in the Lord from now on. "................................................."Revelation 14:13"

On Tuesday, September 6, 2011 at University of Chapel Hill Hospital in Chapel Hill, NC, GOD called our beloved husband, daddy,

"Papa King", brother, uncle, cousin and friend to his eternal home. Leaving this earthly home, he was reunited with the many loved ones

that have previously made their transition from earth to heaven. We can only imagine the celebrations and reunions as God has welcomed him home.

A Time To Mourn:

A time to weep, and a time to laugh, a time to mourn..............................................................................................................................................................................."Ecclesiastes 3:4"

King George leaves behind an enduring legacy of his own family and his church and community family. He loved to be with

people, loved to smile, loved to cook, loved to serve, loved to laugh, loved music. But most of all, he loved his wife.

He will surely be missed, but holds a special place in each of our hearts.

A Time To Heal:

He hurdled many obstacles with his health issues, but his will to live and the prayers of many gave us time. The physicians,

nurses, emergency service personnel and hospital staff came to love "The King" as they called him and would often say, "The

King is back". His healing is now complete and the angels are singing. And we rejoice even as we mourn.
