King George,

In the month of May, 1950, I was 15 years old and you were 18 years old,

our paths crossed for the first time.

We met on the grounds of Perquimans High School. You were with a cousin,

Britton Byrum, whom I knew.

You asked me for a date. I accepted. You were taking me to

the Glee Club Concert that I was singing in, at the high school.

I must have made a lasting impression on you because later that same day

you made this bold statement to your cousin,

"If I go with that girl, I'm going to marry her."

Approximately four years later after I had graduated from high school and

you had returned home from the Air Force, we were married on Easter Sunday,

April 18, 1954 in New Hope Methodist Church.

In August of 1954, during campmeeting service, we walked down a sawdust

aisle and accepted the Lord together. This step helped us to stabilize our marriage

more for the future together.

Another four years passed and together we became the parents of two precious

baby girls. Ira Lucille names for both grandmothers and Hazelene Marie, named for me.

Together, we counted these blessing from our Heavenly Father.

A few more years passed and together we saw our girls grow up. graduate and marry.

Martin and Danny added to the package deal as more blessings began to arrive

with grandchildren. Together, we saw these added to our family:

Jamie, Chris, Julie, Holly, Quinton and Cleo.

In the last two years our blessings continued with great-grandchildren.

Together, we saw Codie and Blakelyn added to our family.

We have a wonderful family filled with lots of love for each other.

You have always had a great appreciation of music, loving to

strum the guitar, mandolin and singing good old hymns.

You are a superb cook, with a dash of seasonings, you turn your concoctions

into a pleasing dish.

You are so talented when your hands touch a piece of wood.

Your touch turns the product into something beautiful.

You and I will soon celebrate 48 years of marriage together and 52 years of

knowing each other together. I can truthfully say we have been partners together

in so many ways.

We have:

Loved and lived together

Worked and labored together

Been happy and sad together

Traveled and seen some of the world together

Had trials and made mistakes together

Feasted and fasted together

Prayed and sought God together

Now we are retired and enjoying ourselves together

It seems like a dream for the years to have gone so swiftly and now you have

reached the age of three score and ten or 70 years. I feel that God has had His Hands upon

our lives since our paths crossed in 1950. My prayer is that you will have many, many

birthdays to come and we will walk hand in hand in our sunset years together.

I Love You,

Hazel

(Written by Hazel for King George on his 70th birthday)
